I believe in people and in our ability to work together to create strong, vibrant communities. And I believe that when each of us care enough to do something there is no challenge we cannot meet. I have been involved in the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce for the past nine years and during that time have met many who care enough about the health and prosperity of their fellow Chamber members, the local business community and the broader community around us to step forward to do something positive. Each of them has recognized the importance of looking beyond the front door of their own particular business endeavour, and to offer their time and support to the rest of the business community.
The health and prosperity of Qualicum Beach's main street is vital to all of us. The grocery store, the pharmacy, the video store, the post office, bakeries, banks, dentists and doctors, notaries and lawyers, restaurants, bookstores, auto shops, gas stations... all of them are vital to our day-to-day lives and should not be taken for granted. Our business community forms the core, the heart of our community life, it is where we see and interact with each other every day.
Your Chamber of Commerce has an important role to play here, both as the Voice of Business and as the source of information for business activities. It is the only local organization devoted to the issues that affect local businesses from taxation and road closures, to permits and parking.
You can join the Chamber Of Commerce for any number of reasons... for the employee benefits package or the low Visa/ MasterCard rates, to network with other business members or to have your rack cards and brochures displayed at the Chamber business office downtown or in the Visitor Centre on the beach. But most of all, if you too believe in the people of this community, the people who have invested not only their time but their livelihoods, the lives of their families and their futures in this small town, then join the Chamber of Commerce. That's why I did.
